(Sydney, October 7th 2019): Huawei Australia has hailed the stunning achievement by the Canberra Raiders – sponsored by Huawei since 2012 – in reaching the National Rugby League (NRL) Grand Final and commiserated with the team after its narrow loss to the Sydney Roosters.
The Raiders, watched by over 80,000 fans at ANZ Stadium and millions around the world live on TV, gave their all in the game’s showpiece game but could not quite get over the line against the reigning NRL premiers to record their first Grand Final win since 1994.
In a nail-biting game the Roosters snatched victory with a late try to seal a 14-8 victory over the heartbroken Raiders who did their legions of travelling fans proud with a gutsy and skillful performance.
Huawei Australia came on board as major sponsor of the Canberra Raiders back in 2012 and in June renewed its sponsorship of the club for a further two seasons until the end of the 2021 NRL season.
The magnificent Raiders achievement comes in an important year for Huawei Australia with this year marking the 15th anniversary of our arrival into the Australian market.
Jeremy Mitchell, Director of Corporate & Public Affairs at Huawei Australia said:
“This Grand Final is an historic moment for both Huawei Australia and the Canberra Raiders – we are incredibly proud of our association with this fantastic club.
“We commiserate with the Raiders in their loss but we remain extremely proud of Ricky Stuart and every single one of the Raiders players and staff for their efforts this year.
“Both Huawei and the Raiders have been through some rough times in recent years but under the leadership of the great Ricky Stuart the Raiders have shown that if you keep backing yourself and doing the hard work then the rewards will come.
“Our partnership with the Raiders has delivered incredibly positive outcomes for a number of great causes across the country and we hope that this Grand Final will herald the start of yet more great things for our partnership.”
