Huawei and Raiders announce BDI jersey launch
(Sydney, August 4th 2020) Huawei Australia is proud to announce that we will partner with the Canberra Raiders for their National Rugby League round 14 clash on Saturday 15th August against the Brisbane Broncos to help raise awareness and funds for mental health focused medical research institute the Black Dog Institute.
Today the Raiders will launch the special NRL Charity Round match jersey – featuring the Black Dog Institute logo – they will wear in the Charity Round match with all team jerseys auctioned off post-match via allbids.com.au with proceeds going directly to the Black Dog Institute.
Founded in 2002 the Black Dog Institute is internationally recognized as a pioneer in the identification, prevention and treatment of mental illness, and the promotion of wellbeing.
The institute takes its name from the term coined by former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Sir Winston Churchill to describe his own depression with his renowned ‘V for Victory’ symbol and the dog’s shadow paying respect to the fact that although mental illness can be ever present, however does not define the individual.
Both Huawei Australia and the Canberra Raiders are extremely proud to be helping an organization such as the Black Dog Institute at a time when the economic and social impacts of COVID-19 are impacting on the mental health of many people in Australia.
Although ongoing COVID-19 restrictions will prevent Huawei Australia, the Canberra Raiders and the Black Dog Institute from delivering our originally scheduled program of activities for Charity Round we still encourage fans to watch out on social media for ways in which they can get involved with and support NRL Charity Round.
The NRL Charity Round has enabled Huawei Australia to work with the Canberra Raiders to raise well in excess of $100,000 for a range of charities including Tour de Cure, Bowel Cancer Australia, Ricky Stuart Foundation and Deaf Australia.
Lisa Connors, Manager Corporate Relations and Programs of Huawei Australia:
“Huawei Australia is proud to be using the NRL Charity Round and our partnership with the Canberra Raiders to help raise awareness and money for an organization that assist thousands of people every year.
“Huawei is proud to see this jersey launched today with the Black Dog Institute to help further the cause and raise public awareness of one of the most important issues we face in Australia; improving mental health right across our society.
“The social and economic impacts of not only the catastrophic bushfire season but now the Coronavirus lockdown will have caused mental health issues for many Australians around the country.”
Don Furner, Canberra Raiders CEO, said:
“The Raiders and Huawei have a proud history of working together to help raise money and awareness for a number of very worthwhile causes and we’re looking forward to adding the Black Dog Institute to this.
“Our club and players are all about putting back into the community and this gives us the opportunity to give some wonderful exposure for the Black Dog Institute who have been working with our major sponsor Huawei.”
In addition to the jersey auction, fans can continue to support the initiative via the dedicated Black Dog Institute an
